# Portal Down

**Summary**: the Chameleon user portal is unreachable or experiencing errors.

**Consequences**: When the user portal is down, users will be unable log in anywhere due to portal hosting the Single-Sign On (SSO) implementation. Additionally, users will be unable to reach the user portal (chameleoncloud.org), view their allocations, request renewals, and view things like the appliance catalog.

#### Possible causes

**Networking interruption**: the host institution network for the portal (TACC) might be down or unreachable from the outside. If this is the case, TACC should be notified and there's not much to be done. However, login to other sites can be restored by disabling SSO:

1. Edit the site configuration `globals.yml` to have `enable_horizon_chameleon_websso: no`
2. Reconfigure Horizon: `./cc-ansible reconfigure --tags horizon`

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://chameleoncloud.gitbook.io/chi-in-a-box/operations/runbooks/portaldown.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
